Supporting Women in Coffee

Supporting Women in Coffee: From Farmers to Entrepreneurs

YourBeans founder Gina Di Brita plays a pivotal role in supporting and empowering women producers by actively working towards a complete female supply chain. Gina recognises the importance of fostering gender equality. Through our parent company Numero Uno, Gina promotes economic opportunities for women in the coffee sector all over the world.

Rwanda

In Rwanda, women make up a significant percentage of the coffee farmers. They’re also responsible for most of the coffee production. However, they face unique challenges, including limited access to education and access to resources.

We partner with Tropic Coffee, a woman-led company co-founded by Divine Mutuyimana. The company buys coffee from Rwandan women farmers, paying a premium price for their coffee. Fair trade practices and market access ensure that women can earn a sustainable income from their work. They provide them with training and support to help them improve the quality of their coffee and increase their yields. This helps women increase their economic independence and improve their livelihoods.

Women coffee farmers in Rwanda

As a YourBeans client, you’re getting more than coffee

We partner with Tropic Coffee because they produce and export the highest scoring Rwandan specialty Arabica coffee while actively empowering women farmers.

Our collaboration with Tropic Coffee not only enhances the livelihoods of these women, but promotes the development of their communities, fostering a sense of empowerment and equality throughout the entire coffee supply chain. By sourcing coffee directly from women farmers in Rwanda, Numero Uno Coffee is doing more than ensuring our customers experience coffees from the best growing regions, high in the mountains of Rwanda. We’re helping to create a sustainable income source for women coffee farmers and cooperatives, leading a global movement towards a just and inclusive industry.
